SOMETHING FISHY

FYI ... Third turtle release by FKCFA in the past six months assisting the Turtle Hospital of Marathon, FL.

FKCFA routinely works with The Turtle Hospital in the retrieval and release of turtles injured by boat strikes, line and rope entanglements, shark attacks, red tide interactions, cold snaps and other ailments. For more information please contact us or The Turtle Hospital in Marathon, FL.

Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen’s Association members assisted The Turtle Hospital in the release of a loggerhead sea turtle named Bev on August 15, 2011. Three generations of the Daniels family took Bev, her rescuer Richard Dorn, and caregivers out on their boat “My Toy” for the release. The 257-pound turtle spent 5 months at the hospital after losing her front left flipper in a rope entanglement. Sea turtles can survive very well with missing flippers, and Bev proved this as she swam away fast and straight, no doubt happy to be back in her watery home.

On Thursday,  Aug 26, 2010 Our organization assisted Richie Moretti from the Turtle Hospital in releaseing 2 rehabilitated turtles into Florida Bay.  Our fishermen, Randolph Daniels provided his boat "My Toy" to assist in the transport and release.  photos soon to come.

On July 11th 2009 the Florida Marine Patrol had their Reunion Picnic on Pigeon Key.

They asked us (FKCFA) to fry some fish for them and we made it happen with the help of our directors Mitch Gale and wife Vicki,  Butch Hewlett and wife Barbara,  and Bobby Pillar.  Ernie Piton took them fishing to provide the fish.  A fun time was had by all and the fish was delish......the fireworks after was pretty awesome too.
